Mission: ASB Learning Commons mission is to inspire and support its users towards creative and intellectual achievement while responsibly and ethically learning the value of information, its acquisition, and its usage.
Patrons All members of the ASB community are considered patrons. The ASB community is defined as all students, parents, and staff that are enrolled or work at ASB. Guests may use library material within the library premises. Volunteers are welcome at the ASB Library. Parents and students interested in volunteering should contact the Learning Commons Help Desk
Hours The Learning Commons is open Monday-Friday from 7:40 am to 4:30 pm. It is also open on Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm (except during vacations and extended weekends).
Services and Facilities a.Technology . All Secondary students have these applications available. Wireless internet access is available throughout the Learning Commons. The Destiny catalog and the various online databases that the school subscribes to are all available through the school website. Web browsers on these computers have multi-language support for the benefit of our international student community. Printers, a scanner, a photocopier, and projection facility for digital presentations are available in the ASB Learning Commons.
b. Space usage Within the Learning Commons, there are quiet, comfortable spaces provided for reading and studying. All mobile phones should be set to the vibrate mode when entering the Learning Common. All patrons are reminded that the ASB Learning Commons is used for independent or group study, research, creating digital and nondigital products, flex classes and a meeting space. The Learning Commons personnel may approach patrons to request quiet and orderly conduct to preserve an optimum use of the space. Snacks and drinks are permitted with care.
c. Events Learning Commons host author visits offer workshops and classes for parents, teachers, and students. Dates for these events are posted on the school website and the school calendar.
Collection & Resources With the Learning Commons, the ASB has a collection of over 20,000 books in print, over 100,000 ebooks and audiobooks. The Learning Commons also subscribes to various periodicals, journals, magazines, and a substantial number of electronic databases. Access to all materials is available through the Learning Commons Website.
Online Databases: The Learning Commons subscribes to many online research and educational databases which are accessible to the community via the Learning Commons Website.
Circulation Services A staff member is available at the help desk, during all hours of operation to offer directions pertaining to the location of resources, assist patrons in learning the strategies for effective information acquisition and provide circulation services.
Loan period All materials are available for a standard checkout period of two weeks. Except for periodicals and magazines which are loaned out for a week. Return A dropbox is available at all checkout stations.
Overdue As a reminder, overdue notices are emailed to the patron. The Learning Commons does not charge overdue fines.However if an item is reported missing or is returned seriously damaged, the borrower is responsible for replacing the resource.
Requests Patrons may request books to be reserved. Patrons may send in their book requests for purchasing contacting the Learning Commons Help Desk.
