Blogs What is a Blog? Blog is a mash up of web and log. BLOG is a chronologically ordered series of Website updates, written and organized much like a traditional diary, right down to the informal style of writing that is characterized by one person or a group of people. They write regular entries about a certain topic. An entry is also called a blog post Background information about blogs. The first blog was probably started in 1994. Weblog was then jokingly shortened to just “blog”. Blogosphere means the entire community of blogs on the web. Technorati.com is a blog search engine and has been tracking more than112 million blogs (Technorati, 2008) Blogs can be just links to other sites, it can be personal journals or diaries, sometimes they have a specific purpose like music, cooking, etc. sometimes there are art blogs, photo blogs, video blogs and more. Unique features of blogs: - Entries are listed in reverse-chronological order, that is, the most recent entries are always at the top of the page. - Commenting is another important feature where readers of the blog can comment. - Blog roll is a list of other blogs that blogger finds interesting or useful. (usually found on the sidebars of a blog.
